The Primary Care Psychology Team
You can self refer to NHS Swindon Talking Therapies – previously known as Swindon LIFT Psychology – without having to see a GP first. They offer free one-to-one appointments and courses. You can book an appointment by calling the team on 01793 836836.
Most of the initial appointments take place on the phone or via video link. They can also offer you face-to-face appointments on request.
They offer a range of free psycho-educational courses available to anyone in Swindon and Wiltshire. The courses are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), teaching a variety of tools and techniques to help people to manage their mood. Courses are run both day times and evenings with occasional Saturdays across a variety of locations. Courses available include:

CBT is a type of talking therapy which helps people understand the link between their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, which can help to lift peoples’ moods and reduce anxiety by breaking behavioural patterns.
The Primary Care Psychology Service also provides a variety of guided self-help options including self-help literature, Books on Prescription, Computerised Cognitive Behavioural therapy and psycho-educational courses.
Books on Prescription is a scheme set up by Swindon Primary Care Trust and Swindon Libraries to provide a range of recommended self-help books to people who may wish to resolve common mental health difficulties. Our books on prescription scheme is available through prescription from your GP or through one of the Mental Health Practitioners.
Beating the Blues (BTB) is a self help computer program for anxiety or depression based on Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT). The beating the blues program consists of 8 hourly sessions which provide tools and techniques for managing your mood. The programme is available on-line for you to complete in your own time, or with a facilitator at Priory Road Surgery.
